Tahkuranna Dormition Orthodox Church

The Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God of Tahkuranna, located near the Mirteli tourist farm, was completed in 1872. The Tahkuranna Church is architecturally quite rare in Estonia, as it was built using red brick without any earthen stones. In the case of Orthodox churches, they are traditionally used together. In addition, while the colorful wall surface of Orthodox churches is usually obtained by using different materials, in the case of Tahkuranna, protruding and receding surfaces, cornices, lintels, etc. are used.
In the interior of the sanctuary, you can admire the domed ceilings, mirror vaults and ceiling paintings.

Interesting to know! The first president of the Republic of Estonia, Konstantin Päts, was baptized in Tahkuranna Church.

Uulu pier and historic rose garden recreation park

The Uulu rose garden recreation park and pier are a place of natural beauty loved by locals. The hillside offers a beautiful view of the sea, and a forest path runs through the park garden, ending at the Uulu Canal bridge.
The rose garden has a covered seating area and benches, as well as a small outdoor gym. In memory of the rose garden, which was once founded by Baron Stael von Holstein, a rose bed has been restored and a memorial has been erected thanks to locals.
From the pier you can walk to the sea and enjoy the picturesquely beautiful sunsets that are characteristic of the Pärnu County coast.

Konstantin Päts statue and memorial park 500 m away

Konstantin Päts was the first president of the Republic of Estonia from 1938 to 1940. He is considered the most prominent politician of the pre-war Republic of Estonia. He led Estonian governments repeatedly, including during the most difficult time for the country, the beginning of the War of Independence. He was born in 1874. in the year in Tahkuranna parish. Here, the monument built near his birthplace was opened by K. Päts himself. The park was designed by Pärnu city architect Olev Siinmaa. 1940. The statue was destroyed in 2011, but it was restored under the leadership of the Estonian Heritage Conservation Society. Its reopening took place on the 50th anniversary of the statue’s first unveiling, and the authors were Andres Mänd and Mati Karmin.

Häädemeeste muuseum is a municipal museum that was established already in 1991. year. Starting from 2022. museum has been located in a newly renovated building.

The renewed exhibition is a cross-section of the history of the Häädemeeste region, the development of sailing shipping, and fishing. Church, school, and cultural history play an important role. Fascinating household and decorative items in the farm room show what life was like 100 years ago. It is possible to order a guided tour, which opens even more windows for observing the history of the region.

Coastal hiking trail

The Coastal Hiking Trail runs along the Baltic Sea coast and is part of the European long-distance path E9. The route’s total length is 1200 km, of which 580 km are in Latvia and 620 km in Estonia, starting at the Lithuania-Latvia border and ending in Tallinn.

The entire journey takes about 60 days, but the trail is divided into days and difficulty levels, which allows you to choose the most suitable distance for yourself. The trail can be completed in both directions, in Estonia you start either from Ikla or Tallinn, and the Estonian distance is divided into 30 hiking days.

You can see more than 500 natural and cultural objects, and the trail also leads to accommodation and dining options where you can enjoy a soft bed and good food.
